To mark the 175th anniversary of the Institute of Historical Geography at the University of Mainz by the Foundation Hambach castle was commissioned to develop content for a new exhibition on the Hambach Festival. This can be seen now in the renovated and refurbished Hambach Castle. The new exhibition documents the events of 1832, its prerequisites and consequences. It was our main objective to present the historical content to the latest research and find the Hambach Festival, aspects such as the history, the revolution of 1848-49, the emergence of the "social question" in the 19 Century and the issue of women in the revolution "to be considered. Special emphasis was placed on the topics "Press freedom and censorship" as well as the constitutional claim and enforcement of fundamental rights, linked to the unity and freedom of Germany placed. Was deliberately limited the view changing not only the Palatinate, as the subject has an all-German and even European dimension.
